I am your Exceeding Great Reward!

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am your shield, and your exceeding great reward.  Genesis 15:1 (AKJV)

In Genesis 12, Abraham has his initial encounter with God, where He promised to bless Abraham by making him a great nation, making him famous and making him a blessing to others. However, after 10 years of waiting and stewarding what was in front of him, it appeared that nothing was happening. And right in the midst of his discouragement, God appeared to Abraham again and encouraged him to, “fear not…I am your shield, and your exceeding great reward.

I love that God switches Abraham’s focus from the reward of His blessing to God Himself.

This week as we steward what God has in front of us, let’s not just focus on the reward of His blessings, promises or dreams. Instead, let’s also focus on God as being our exceeding great reward.
